Planning your Break in Edinburgh

Here is a brief guide to planning your city break in Edinburgh

Travel

The best way to Edinburgh is either by Train (see trainline), Airlines or worst is road in the car.

Both GNER and Virgin run trains to Edinburgh Waverley which is the main terminus in Edinburgh. Waverley is in the very centre of town and has a large taxi rank inside the station by platform 11 or buses outside.

When to Arrive

Arrive on a Friday Night if you can. Drop your stuff off in the hotel and head out right away for a drink - our favourite for the early evening is Opal Lounge in George Street.

Where to Stay

ooh... err. Tricky. We list over 100 hotels and guesthouses throughout Edinburgh in our hotels in Edinburgh and we also have a list of favourite hotels for those who dont know, cannot decide or haven't the time. Late Rooms tends to have good late deals and we also have special negotiated rates with guaranteed best prices on our edinburgh city breaks database.

What to Do

Although Edinburgh has some wonderful museums and galleries, the best things about Edinburgh is walking and enjoying the architecture and wonderful landscape. You will be surprised to know that it rains less in Edinburgh than either London or Rome, so dont think because it is Scotland, it will rain!

  1. Climb Arthur's Seat and enjoy a quarter bottle of champagne on the top
  2. Stand outside the new parliament and argue about whether it is the best architecture in the world... or not
  3. Sit inside an Edinburgh pub and enjoy the classic Scottish drink: an pint of 80 shilling with a side glass of a dram of whisky
  4. Here's a few more highlights for you...
